(Winter)
Winter begins;
The last leaves fall
Into the rushing river.
This verse, by David Coomler, can be found here.
According to the Hokku Calendar, aka the Natural Calendar or the Solar Calendar, winter begins on November 1st; the winter solstice is considered to be mid-winter, and January 31st is the last day of winter.
The photo was taken at the Cascades Waterfall Trail in the Jefferson National Forest, in Pembroke, VA.
When I was a walker I found winter to be an exhilarating time of the year…here in KY it is cold, but not too cold. It’s not like Canada, where the winters are unbearable for most people, like me. This half of the season (until the solstice) is actually very nice!

Many trees are still full of leaves here in NI although their green colour is beginning to change.

We’ve had lots of big gusts of wind coming from the south and west. The Atlantic is singing a different tune.
