Blown inland —
The sound of the sea
In a gull’s cry.
This oceanic hokku was composed by Clive Bennett. It’s one of three hokku which are on his website, here.
The photo of the seagull can be found here.
You can hear the sound of gulls here. Thank you for the teleportation, Clive!
I love the seagull’s cry! Maybe because I have “island genes,” with both of my parents being descendants from islands, the UK and Japan. We have gulls on our rivers, which connect to the larger rivers that end up in the Gulf of Mexico. Through time they have made their way up river to KY. This is a very emotive hokku, for me. Thanks for the beautiful verse, Clive!

Thanks Ed, I’m glad you liked it. I feel the cry of a gull is perhaps in all of us 😊
