A Blackbird Sings

(Spring)

Silence —

The sun begins to rise,

A blackbird sings.

This early morning hokku was composed by Ashley-sama.

The photo of the red-winged blackbird singing was taken in southern KY, USA.

I enjoy translating my observations into hokku, as well as reading the hokku of others. Hope you enjoy your slow-walk through our Hokku Garden!

  1. There’s nothing like getting up early, watching the sun rise, and listening to the birds celebrate the new day. What a beautiful hokku! Thanks for the transplant, Ashley-sama! Your contributions are appreciated!

  2. Here because of lockdown restrictions the traffic noise levels are lower and birdsong is once again in our lives! Thanks Edo, for planting my verse in the Hokku garden. 🙏

  3. Lovely haiku. Great that you are waking to the song of a Blackbird. Ours haven’t really got going yet. But the Thrush, Chaffinch, Great Tit and Wren are all in full song.
